ZIPMEDS RX only offers kits that are prescribed to the specific individual to whom the medication is intended.
The prescribed medications take into account the individual’s medical status based on the clinical intake form, including any noted allergies. All medications have potential for allergic reactions and other adverse effects. Therefore, it is crucial to not allow others to use medications that were not prescribed for them.
The emergency medications should be handled with the same caution as any other prescription medication prescribed by a physician. It is important to adhere to the prescribed usage guidelines and avoid sharing the kit with family members unless explicitly advised to do so by a healthcare professional.
Our emergency kits were created so that you have access to medications for future use, without the worry of shortages or difficulty accessing a pharmacy.
These medications are intended only to be used under provider supervision. Should you feel ill, you should reach out to your primary care provider or another qualified healthcare professional for guidance.
Yes, prescribing antibiotics or other medications to have on hand for future use in the event of travel or emergency is a common practice among providers, which is in compliance with all governmental regulations. Our goal is to provide all patients the ability to prepare for and protect their health and safety against the unexpected.
We ask for a list of your daily medications to ensure that there are no potential interactions between your current medications and the medications provided in the ZIPMEDS Rx kit.
When taking any medications while pregnant or trying to become pregnant it is important that you communicate with your primary care physician or obstetrician. The antibiotics that come in the ZIPMEDS RX kits are typically safe however, there are some particular warnings against taking certain medications at different trimesters. Please consult with your doctor.
ZIPMEDS RX’S antibiotics were selected for their effectiveness while optimizing patient safety. While all medications have potential risk for side effects this must also be balanced by the benefit of their intended use as a solution to an emergency should alternative options not be available.
Yes. They are the same antibiotics you would purchase from your local pharmacy or hospital
The FDA requires pharmacies to label prescription medications with an expiration date, which can be found on the prescription included in your kit. While the duration of the expiration date can vary depending on the medication and formulation, most medications, including antibiotics, can have a shelf life of up to 2 years, however we cannot guarantee the efficacy of the medications past their posted expiration date that can be found on the medication bottle or card.
To optimize the shelf life of medications, it is generally recommended to store them in air-tight containers in a cool and dry environment. However, it is important to note that storage requirements can vary for different medications, so it is advisable to consult with your healthcare professional regarding proper storage conditions.
Information about the FDA’s Shelf-Life Extension Program may be found using the QR code in the enclosed ZIPMEDS RX’s medication guide (included within the kit) and at the following link below:

No In the United States you do not need to declare medications unless they are liquids over 3.4 ounces. For most international travel, you should be able to travel with these medications as well. Nothing in the ZipMeds RX kit is a controlled substance or a narcotic (which for both there are sometimes regulations around travelling with them). Just place the kit in your bag and go through the screening.
You can do either but it’s recommended to put in carry-on (ZipMeds Rx kit should fit in most carry-on bags). We recommend carry on so that you can avoid issues around lost luggage and keep the medications accessible.
